1534年11月3日，英國國會通過著名的「最高權威法」〈Supermancy Act〉，正式宣布：亨利八世及其王位繼承人為英國教會在世上唯一最高元首。自此，英國正式脫離羅馬天主教教廷的管轄。
至1559年4月29日，依莉沙白女王時期，國會再通過一項最高權威法，根據此法案，英國完全廢棄教廷的權威，
不再付任何款項給羅馬，同時由依莉莎白女王任命Rev.Matthew Parker為坎特布里大主教。
於是坎特布里的藍柏宮成為英國國教安立甘教會〈Anglican Church〉的精神中心。
後來隨著「五月花號」清教徒移居美洲新大陸，教會也在新大陸展開宣教工作，並開始植堂。
在美洲的安立甘教會另名為聖公會 (Episcopal Church)，但同樣也是以英國的坎特布里為精神中心。
時至今日，在全球各大洲皆有安立甘教會，而在教會所在，必有安立甘團契或稱聖公宗
(The Anglican Communion)的存在，各地教會在主裡互相支持，互相代禱。
曾有一位主教說：「身為聖公宗的一員真好。當你在夜間休息時，在地球的另一端也有人在為你禱告。」的確，這是少有的福氣。
聖公會教會合一的象徵，就是全球聖公會使用公禱書(The Book of Common Prayer)。
各地公禱書雖有版本及文字的差異，但內容大致一樣。因此，各地聖公會崇拜儀式是大同小異的。
另外，每十年一次的蘭柏會議 (1867年舉行首屆會議 )，是召集全球各教區的主教，相聚在精神中心，
由坎特布里大主教親自主持會議。每次均約有一千多位主教與師母們參加，大家彼此認識、
一起研經、分享聖工。真是主裡一家親，再美不過了。
另外，聖公會是重視教權的教會，植堂從佈道所開始，等達到一定人數後，便改稱為傳道區，由傳道區再成為牧區。一個教會內可以有若干個牧區，不過至少需要三個教區，才能組成教省。神職人員的按立相當嚴肅，由會吏而會長(或稱牧師)，而主教、大主教(教省的最高領導者)。都是經由特定的方式選舉產生。

| 頌主堂隸屬聖公會多倫多教區，於一九九二年成立，最初於伊桃壁谷市(Etobicoke)崇拜，期間已決定遷移至密西沙加市。在九九年十二月因教堂不幸遭受大火蹂躪。但在上帝奇妙的恩典中，加速了搬遷的計劃。我們終於在二千年八月購買了現時地皮作為永久的堂址。十二月正式搬入密西沙加市崇拜。零二年我們決定重建聖堂第一期工程。零三年十一月我們舉行了獻堂感恩崇拜。 接住在新堂址展開聖工。零五年全面更新兒童主日學事工，由兩班改至四班，由兩位老師增至十四位，學生由八人升至三十位。 同年推出閱讀聖經的「食卷運動」。 零六年七月舉行首次九天赴渥太華聖彼得堂的短期宣教，共十九人參加。 |

| Our pastor |
| Rev. Philip Der graduated from Wycliffe College, University of Toronto, in 1994. He was then ordained as a deacon and subsequently as a priest in 1996. He was an assistant incumbent in Vancouver for 6 years, during which he focussed on youth and English ministries. In 2000, he received God’s calling to join St. Elizabeth’s. He completed the Certificate of Conflict Resolution from Justice Institute of B.C. in 2002. |
| Our ministry |
St. Elizabeth’s belongs to the Anglican Diocese of Toronto. Currently, the church has an associated Outreach Centre that provides a range of services and hosts a number of interest groups. These include a Chinese library, badminton nights, tai-chi classes, as well as academic seminars.
The adult education program also has a variety of options – systematic Bible study groups, lifestyle and spiritual seminars, and audiovisual materials – all with the goal of encouraging participation. Our small groups include junior and senior youth groups, adult groups, as well as the choir. We sincerely invite you to join our fellowship as we seek God and the truth together. |
